Google Play promo video: the rules and how to make one
Your Google Play listing can show a promo video, and it's one of the first things people see. Here's what Google requires, and how to make one that works.
Google Play's rules
- It's a YouTube link. Use the video's YouTube URL, not a playlist or channel, and no extra parameters like timecodes (Play Console Help).
- Only the first 30 seconds autoplay, so keep it short and put the best part first (Play Console Help).
- Turn off ads on the video, or it won't be shown on Google Play (Play Console Help).
- Not age-restricted, and it must be embeddable (Play Console Help).
What to put in it
- The point of the app, in the first seconds. The autoplay window is short.
- Your real screens and brand, so the video matches what people get after installing.
- Words on screen for anyone watching muted.
- Under a minute. Short videos hold attention best: Wistia found videos under a minute average a 52% engagement rate (Wistia).
Making it
If your app has a website or landing page, Teasr can turn it into a 30-second promo video in your brand, with music, in about 10 minutes, from €39. Upload the MP4 to YouTube with ads turned off, and paste the link into your store listing.
